In Ezekiel chapter 37 the Spirit of God took Ezekiel to a valley filled with dry bones, and asked him, “Son of man, can these dry bones live?” In the natural it didn’t look like any life could bloom in that wasteland of bones, but Ezekiel knew enough about God to know to know that anything is possible with God. So he answered, “O Lord, you know”.
(5) This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look! I am going to put breath into you, and make you live again! (6) I will put flesh and muscles on you, and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’” Ezekiel 37:5-6 NLT
God said, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! Thus says the Lord God to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. I will put sinews on you, and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin, and put breath in you; and you shall live. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.”
Ezekiel prophesied as God commanded Him, and breath came into the human forms, and they stood up, and became fully alive. The Bible says they were “an exceeding great army” for the Lord.
Prophesying is speaking what God says, whether in His Word or through a Rhema word over a person or into a situation. Ezekiel prophesied the Word of God over the dead, dry bones, and literally called them back to life. He commanded them to hear the word of the Lord. The Word of the Lord carries the life, and authority of the Lord.
You may be thinking, but God spoke directly to Ezekiel. And to that I say God is speaking directly to you too through His Word. God says that He will watch over His Word to perform it. When we decree the Word of God, we are giving voice to His Word.
Job 22:28 states that you have to speak, and make a decree, and when it is established light will shine on your way. So if you don’t issue the decree, nothing will be established, and the darkness will remain.
Many times we say our lack of supply, power, or understanding is the will of God, but that is contrary to what He says in Psalm 34:10: “those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.”
James 4:2 says “you do not have because you do not ask.” You see, you must open your mouth, and speak. Ezekiel obeyed God, and decreed the life of God into those dry bones, and they began to come together, and he kept decreeing until he had bodies all around him.
I'm sure at first he felt a little strange talking to bones, but as he spoke, there was a noise, and a rattling, and the bones came together. There have been times when I’ve prophesied into situations that seemed impossible, and I can tell you it can be difficult to get past what you see with your physical eye. That’s why you will need the Holy Spirit!
It may be a fact that you have an illness, but the truth is, God is the God who heals (Exodus15:26), and by the stripes of Jesus we were healed (Isaiah 53:5). It may be a fact that you have no job, and no money, and a mountain of bills right now, but the truth is God supplies all of your needs (Philippians 4:19). Truth is God gives you the power to get wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18).
Ezekiel was obedient in the middle of a dead situation. This is an example of what you can, and should do in the midst of what seems to be defeat! When you obey, and decree God’s Word over and into your situation, you become the anointed breath of God to overcome that circumstance.
The moment you decree His established and settled Word, the angels go forth, and bring fulfillment of that Word (Psalm 103:20). The angels obey the voice of His Word, not your thoughts, so you must open your mouth, and speak.
One of the most powerful things you can do to transform your life is to speak, and decree God’s promises in your prayers, and over, and into whatever area of life you are struggling in. Why is it so important to include Scripture promises in our prayers? Second Corinthians helped to open my understanding:
“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” ¾ 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NKJV)
