Wow! We made it to 2020. Now what shall we do with the new mercy that God has given us. I believe because God’s laws are for our good (Deuteronomy 10:13) there is nothing more important that we can do as we move forward into the new year than write God’s word on our heart.
In Proverbs chapter seven King Solomon advises: Follow my advice, my son; always treasure my commands. Obey my commands and live! Guard my instructions as you guard your own eyes. Tie them on your fingers as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Love wisdom like a sister; make insight a beloved member of your family. Let them protect you from an affair with an immoral woman, from listening to the flattery of a promiscuous woman. Solomon cautions to shun, reject, avoid the acquaintance of lewd, promiscuous women, because getting into a relationship with such a woman is dangerous. Proverbs 7:1-5 (NLT)
In essence, King Solomon speaks on behalf of God. It is God’s wisdom that he is sharing. The woman in the scripture represents sin. Flattery is temptation. Like promiscuous women temptation comes in many shapes – but when it comes as a seductress it is the most deadly. It looks good, it smells good and it gives instant pleasure, but in the long run it leads to death. This is why we should always do what we can to resist temptation. However, that is easier said than done. Solomon says the solution for the snare of temptation is to follow God and keep His commands. Many believers work hard to do what God has commanded only to end up disappointed and frustrated with themselves. The problem is these believers just do not get God’s Word in their hearts, as He has instructed.
Someday, could be any time now, we’re going to have to give an account to our great Creator of what we did in this life, what we did with His word. There is no greater time than right now to draw closer to God through His word.
The most wonderful thing about God’s word is that it is powerful enough to change everything about our lives! Psalm 37:31 teaches us that if only we will put God’s Word in our hearts, it will MAKE US NOT sin or go astray. God’s word is alive, active, and sharper than any sword. It pierces all the way to our souls and brings to light every intention in our hearts (Hebrews 4:12).
We must inscribe the words of wisdom upon the tablet of our heart, our consciousness. Writing God’s word on the tablet of your heart, listening to it and applying it to your life will protect you from an affair with the sin that is always creeping around, ready to trap and snare us. It will produce in you what it talks about abundance, health, prosperity, peace, joy, and victory. But if your heart isn’t prepared to receive the Word, it won’t produce the desired results in your life.
So how can we write God’s word on the tablet of our heart? How can we get it embedded in our consciousness?
You may need to make room in your heart for more of God and His word. Whatever is preventing you from making God first priority in your life make the decision to allow God to free you from it. Finally, invite the Holy Spirit into your prayer and study time. The Holy Spirit knows all the secrets of Heaven, and He reveals all things to us as He is led by the Father. The Holy Spirit knows the mind of God and will help us to pray effectual prayers! Speak to Him, and still your heart and mind and allow Him to speak back to you.
