It is almost impossible to escape profanity, vulgarity, and immorality in today’s society. It is on the television, in the movies and in our music, on the side of buses, in our books and pretty much everywhere we look. ![]() Profanity, vulgarity, and immorality are so prevalent that many are becoming desensitized to these ungodly behaviors with little conviction or shame, even in the church. Scripture reveals: “Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing (or deceiving) spirits, and doctrines of devils. Speaking lies in hypocrisy: having their conscience seared with a hot iron” (1 Timothy 4:1-2). Scripture also reveals: “Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil; as a roaring lion, walks about seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). He is relentless in his pursuit of Believers because of his rage, and malice, which he as a roaring lion, breathes out against the saints. Sobriety and watchfulness are necessary in the life of a Christian because unless we are sober in body and mind, we will not be watchful enough against the snares of the devil and the world which are many. 2 Peter 3:10-14 says, “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. Therefore, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace.” I don’t know about you, but I think of Christ’s return often and I don’t want to be caught in fornication, cheating or stealing, lying on a neighbor, or some other ungodly behavior when Christ returns?
