Praying For Victims of Abuse
I woke up this morning thinking about previous abusive relationships of people who I know who were in abusive relationships, of people who I know abused others, and previous relationships that I myself was in. As I thought about these people, I began to pray for those who are presently in abusive relationships, whether it be a child or an adult, whether it be verbal or physical abuse.
Every day, infants, children, men, and women all around us are facing some form of abuse: verbal, physical, sexual, or emotional. Many of us have been in a dysfunctional relationship, but not all of us have had the means, the courage, or the opportunity to get out from under the oppression. The basic need for security plays a significant role in their decision to remain where they are. Or, in certain cases, they fear the abuse will increase if they try to leave. As kings of the King, we are to stand up for righteousness. There are times to take action or to speak up for change, and there are times to be silent. But always remember, change brings change. If you can’t do anything but pray, then PRAY.
I would like you to join me in praying for those of you who are trapped in a situation where they are being physically or emotionally abused. Maybe it’s you. Let us pray for those who are suffering in silence in our nation and believe God to rescue them.
LET US PRAY:
Heavenly Father, we come to You today lifting up those who are in abusive situations and sharing a common space with a wrathful person, who is given to anger. Your Word clearly expresses Your desire for those who are in such situations to be free.
We ask You to step in and deliver those oppressed by this evil. Rescue them, Father. Show them the way to escape. Give them the courage to speak out and speak up and tell someone who can help them. God open the eyes of righteous people around them, so they will recognize the signs of trouble, and direct them to help.
Let healing flow to the abused! Heal the wounds that have been inflicted upon them. We declare safety and restoration to them.
Father, we also pray for the aggressors. Drive them to repentance. Deliver them and lead them to receive help. Let Your will be done in the victim and the aggressor, as it is already done in heaven.
In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen
