In 1 Chronicles 5:18–22, the children of Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh did not enter the battle careless, fearful, or unprepared. They went into battle trained, equipped, and armed.

They understood that faith in God does not mean neglecting preparation. They were ready to fight, but they also knew that their weapons alone could not give them the victory.

The Bible says, “They cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.” —1 Chronicles 5:20 KJV

They prepared for the battle, but they trusted God for the outcome.

There is a powerful lesson in this. Pray, but also prepare. Trust God, but also use the wisdom, training, resources, and spiritual weapons He has placed in your hands. Put on the whole armor of God. Fill your heart with His Word. Strengthen your prayer life. Guard your mind. Know what God has spoken. Do not wait until the battle becomes intense to begin preparing.

They were armed, but they still cried out to God. They were skilled, but they still depended on Him. They were ready to fight, but they did not put their confidence in their own strength.

Somebody needs to hear this today: God is calling you to be both prayerful and prepared. Do not enter your next season spiritually unarmed. Do not face opposition with an empty prayer life, an undisciplined mind, or no Word hidden in your heart.

Prepare yourself. Arm yourself with truth. Stand in faith. Cry out to God in the battle.

Verse 22 says, “For there fell down many slain, because the war was of God.”
When you are prepared, obedient, and trusting God, the size of the opposition will not determine the outcome.

Go into the battle prepared and armed, but never forget that your victory comes from the Lord.
