Understanding your identity in Christ is essential to living your life the way He intended. Your identity in Christ is different from your personal identity, which is commonly defined by your education, economic worth or social status, title (Mom, Dad, Doctor, Teacher, etc.), personality traits, hobbies, likes and dislikes, are all facts about you that change throughout your life, not your identity. As believers, our old self died. God has made us completely new, but the expectations of the world, the old man (flesh), and Satan’s imps are among the many voices in our head that attempt to wage war against our identity. They can be mighty loud as they attempt to wage war against who we are in Christ. These are times when we need to remind ourselves that our identity does not lie in our mistakes, our struggles, and shameful actions. Don’t accept the lies of these voices and who they say you are. You do not have to work to fit in or be someone you’re not. We will make missteps from time to time, but often times we beat ourselves up about them, when God has forgiven us. If you make a misstep, ask God to forgive you, and help you not to do that thing again. Forgive yourself and move on.
Jesus said, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." We are in a constant spiritual war that can only be fought spiritually. God told me Angeline, "You battle with my Word." So, I’m learning to do just that. When those discouraging, negative voices start whispering in my head, I cast them down and combat them with the Word of God and who I am in Christ. The more you reaffirm and declare out loud who you are in Christ, the more your thoughts, and behavior will begin to change. The more your behavior changes, the more you will begin to reflect your true identity in Christ. This list reveals the truth about who God created you to be and how He wants you to live!
Remember, you are not defined by who the world says that you are. You are defined by who Christ says that you are. In Him is where your true identity lies. When those negative thoughts come a knocking pull out these scriptures and do battle! |
